The pollsters have been working hard to sort through the mess after a weekend of complete mayhem in the WCLO. The weekend was filled with Top 20 matchups and even more upsets. The WCLO instagram account was taken over by University of New Hampshire and followed along as they pulled out two huge upsets over 2024 National Champions and National Runner-Ups, Loyola Maryland (8-7) and Fairfield University (14-7), respectively. These wins push New Hampshire up 7 spots to our #1 spot this week. With the wins this weekend, University of Vermont’s win over New Hampshire earlier this season looks even more convincing. They sit at #4 this week, only a few points behind Loyola and Fairfield. Vermont also picked up two more wins this weekend against UMaine and Bryant putting them undefeated at 8-0. They will take a break and will look towards regional playoff placements to determine their fate.

In the same day, Loyola-Maryland also falls to #3 Fairfield in a National Championship rematch, 12-11. Fairfield improves to 4-1 and Loyola- Maryland now sits at 4-3 overall. Due to their strength of schedule and close losses, the hounds retain the #2 spot this week.

In another shocking final, the US Naval Academy suffered a close 9-5 loss to Georgetown. Georgetown moves to 4-1 on the season and moves up one spot to #6. Navy now sits at 8-2 and moves down 3 spots to #5. 

The last major upset of the weekend belongs to Towson University who took down St. Joseph 9-8 on Sunday evening. Towson has had its ups and downs this season, but sits at 8-3 now this season rolling into the last week of competition looking stronger than ever.

In a little over a week we will have our Regional Playoff brackets locked in. With two more AQ bids up for grabs out east and larger regional tournaments being held, this is slated to be the biggest year so far for the WCLO. Stay tuned. 

Things are starting to heat up this season with over 35 games played this past week! The Top 5 have remained steady thus far with both Navy and Loyola Maryland receveing first place votes this week. University of Vermont sits tight at number 3 this week and St. Josephs and St. Thomas round out the Top 5. 

There are two newcomers to the poll this week: Syracuse, who pulled out two wins this past weekend over previous national tournament attendees, Sacred Heart and WCLA D2 West Chester and Duquesne University out of the WCLL who had a close loss to #4 St. Josephs over the weekend. This coming week we will see 68 competitions across the WCLO that are bound to shake up the Top 20. After a light week of games this past week, the WCLO will see the biggest weekend of the 2025 season thus far with three Friday night faceoffs, fourteen games on Saturday and eighteen matchups on Sunday. The rankings continue to remain pretty stagnant through the break, but are bound to shake up over the next three weeks. On Tuesday, #5 St. Thomas will square off against WCLA D1 Minnesota. The Tommies look to repeat as they defeated Minnesota in the regular season in 2024. #6 Fairfield will also be pairing up with a WCLA D1 team are set to play Rhode Island at home Sunday evening. Also seeing out of league competition this coming week are 2024 National tournament attendees, Sacred Heart; they will face WCLA D2 Quinnipiac at home Saturday, then play host to 2023 National tournament attendees, WPI, and Syracuse University. 

We also look forward to some Top 20 matchups this weekend within the WCLO. #2 Navy will take on #T16 American at home on Saturday, and then will head to George Washington University to face VCU and #13 George Washington. #4 St. Joseph will play Duquesne University for a MAWLL/WCLL matchup. The Hawks will also play WCLA D2 West Chester.  #T8 Grand Valley will continue their season after a long hiatus and will see three games against Illinois State, Michigan State ‘B’ and Oakland. 

#1 Loyola Maryland will not see action again until Week 6 where they will play two statement matchups against newcomers New Hampshire, as well as, a National Championship rematch against Fairfield University.
